What Is an In‑Person STEM Field Trip?

Our in‑person STEM field trips bring everything directly to your school — instructors, materials, and structured lessons — so teachers can focus on learning, not logistics.

Why Schools Choose In-Class Field Trips
  • Grade specific and Curriculum-aligned to Alberta
    learning outcomes
  • Hassle-free for teachers and administrators
  • All equipment and materials provided
  • Hands-on, engaging, and memorable
  • Supports inquiry, creativity, and problem solving
  • Available for Kindergarten through Grade 6 (upper grades available upon request)

Curriculum Connections:

Science Inquiry

Design & Technology

Students develop scientific thinking by:

  • Asking questions that can be investigated

  • Planning and carrying out simple investigations

  • Testing ideas through observation and measurement

  • Comparing results by changing one factor at a time

  • Using tools and materials safely

  • Drawing conclusions based on evidence

  • Checking results against predictions

  • Explaining findings using scientific understanding
Students apply the engineering design process by:

  • Planning and building functional models

  • Exploring how structures and mechanisms work

  • Testing and improving their designs

  • Evaluating solutions to solve problems

  • Using creativity within given constraints

Program Options

Our in-class programs are designed to meet students where they are developmentally while supporting Alberta curriculum goals in science, inquiry, and design. Each session builds skills through hands-on exploration, collaboration, and purposeful problem solving.

1. Pre-K & Kindergarten — 60 minutes

Young learners explore the foundations of engineering using K’Nex through playful, guided building experiences. Students investigate simple machines, shapes, and movement while strengthening fine motor skills, focus,
and confidence.
Through structured exploration and creative choice, children begin developing early inquiry skills — observing, testing ideas, and learning how designs work.

2. Grades 1–6 Programs — 75–90 minutes

Students engage in immersive engineering challenges where they construct functional models and investigate real-world concepts such as forces, motion, balance, and structural stability.
Working individually and in teams, students learn, build, test, and refine their machines — developing critical thinking, communication, and perseverance. These sessions reinforce key Alberta science outcomes while making learning active, meaningful, and memorable.

Typical Session Structure

(Timing may vary slightly by grade and program)

1. Explore

15 Minutes

Students are introduced to the STEM concept of the day and explore how their STEM kit components and motors will be used.

2. Structured Model Building

45 Minutes

Students follow guided instructions to build a working model while instructors support problem‑solving and engineering thinking.

3. Creative Enhancements

10 Minutes

Students modify, improve, and experiment with their designs using scientific reasoning.

4. Wrap up & Rest

15 Minutes

Models are dismantled, materials are organized, and learning is reviewed together.
